UPSC Exam is divided in 3 stages: Prelim stages Mains Stages Interview Prelim Exam The Preliminary Examination conducted by UPSC consists of two papers of objective type (multiple choice questions) carrying a maximum of 400 marks. The Question papers (Test booklets) are set in English and Hindi (Paper 1) (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs. *Current event of national and Internation importance *History of India and Indian national movement *Indian and World Geography-physical, social, economic geography of India and the world *Indian Polity and governance-constitution ploitical system, panchayat raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc *Economic and social development-sustainable develoopment, poverty inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc *General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that do not require subject specializatin *General science *The question will be in multiple choice (Paper 2) (200 marks) - Duration: Two hrs *Comprehension *Interpersonal skills including communication skills *Logical reasoning and analytical ability *Decision making and problem solving *General mental ability *Basic mumeracy (numbers and their relation, orders of magnitude ets(class 10th level), Data interpretation(charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.(class 10th level) *English language comprehension skills (class 10th level) *Questions relating to English langauage coprehension skill of class10th level (last item in the Syllabus of paper-2) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation there of in the question paper *The question will be in multiple choice.
