The Combined Medical Services Examination or the CMS Exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment as Medical Officer in various organizations such as the Indian Ordnance Factories, Indian Railways functioning under the Government of India.

The Notification for the examination is usually released in the month of March and examination is conducted in June. Successful Candidates are admitted after an interview conducted by the UPSC for those having qualified the written examination.

Eligibility Conditions

Nationality:

One must be either (a) a citizen of India, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 01st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India; or (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
Provided that one belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt of India

Educational Qualification

One should have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination

One who has appeared or has yet to appear at the final MBBS Exam may also apply.
Such candidates will be admitted to the exam, if otherwise eligible but the admission would be deemed to be provisional.

One who has yet to complete the compulsory rotating internship is educationally eligible for admission to the exam but on selection one appointed only after completed the compulsory rotating internship


Age Limit
One must not have attained the age of 32 years.

Upper Age Relaxation
The upper age limit is relaxable; up to a maximum of 5 years for a SC/ST candidate; up to a maximum of 3 years for one belonging to OBC;
up to a maximum of 5 years for one had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 01st January 1980 to the 31st December 1989;
up to a maximum of 3 for one Defense Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof;
up to a maximum of 5 years in the case of Ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs /SSCOs who have rendered at least 5 years Military Service and have been released;
up to a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/ SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of 5 years Military Service and whose assignment has been extended beyond 5 years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on 3 months notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment;
up to a maximum of ten years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped
