Re: UPSC Economics Exam

The UPSC conducts the Indian Economic/Statistical Services Examination to recruit officers in the planning commission, planning board, ministry of economic affairs, national sample survey and other allied offices where specialists in economics and statistics are required.

Selected candidates are also placed in the Labour Bureau, Central Electricity Authority, Economic Advisers to many ministries, Forward Market Commission, Tariff Commission, Planning Board, Tariff Commission National sample survey, etc.

Candidates may even go on deputations to different agencies of United Nations. .

A combined competitive examination for recruitment to Grade IV officers of the services of Indian Economic and Indian Statistic is conducted by the UPSC.

Date of Notification: 6 February, 2016
Last Date to Apply: 4 March, 2016
Date of Exam: 13 May, 2016 (3 Days)

Eligibility Criteria


One should have post graduate degree from a recognized university in Economics or Applied Economics or Business Economics or Econometrics.

Exam Pattern


Part I is written examination carrying a maximum of 1000 marks. The exam is of conventional type.

Part II is viva-voce of such candidates as may be called by the Commission, carrying a maximum of 200 marks.
