Re: UPSC Attempts for OBC
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Services exam to recruit candidates for All India Services and Central Civil Services for various departments of the Government of India. It is conducted in two stages – Preliminary (objective-type paper) and Mains (descriptive paper and interview). IAS Preliminary paper is conducted to select candidates for the Main (written) exam. IAS Prelims is just a screening exam and its marks are not considered for the final merit. Number of Attempts General category candidates = 6 OBC category candidates = 9 SC/ST candidates = unlimited attempts till 37 years of age. Appearing to attempt one of the papers in the preliminary exam is counted as an attempt, including disqualification/ cancellation of candidature. However, applying to sit the exam but failing to attend is not counted as an attempt. UPSC Eligibility Academic One must hold a pass Bachelor's degree from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University, under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification. One must have as a minimum one of the following educational qualifications - a degree from a Central, State or a Deemed university or a degree received through correspondence or distance education or a degree from an open university. One who has appeared or intends to appear for the final exam and awaiting results is also eligible to apply for the Preliminary Examination. One who qualifies the Prelims exam must produce a proof of pass Bachelor Degree to appear for the Main Exam. The UPSC may in exceptional cases treat one without the foregoing requisite qualification as an eligible candidate if one has passed an exam conducted by other institutions, the standard of which justifies admission in the opinion of the Commission. One with professional and technical bachelor degrees that are recognised by the Government is also eligible to apply - MBBS, CA etc. One who has passed the final year of MBBS but yet to complete the internship can also appear for the Main Exam. However, one must submit a certificate from the concerned authority of the University / Institution that one has passed the final professional medical exam along with the Main Exam application. At the Interview stage one must produce a certificate from a competent authority that one has completed (including internship) and all the requirements for the award of the Medical Degree. Age Limit for IAS Exam Candidates must be minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years of age. There is also age relaxation of some years for reserved category candidates: SC/ ST 5 Years OBC 3 Years Defence Services Personnel, disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof 3 Years Ex-servicemen including commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years of military service and have been released 5 Years PwD [(a) blindness and low vision; (b) deaf and hard of hearing; (c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; (d) autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; and (e) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d) including deaf-blindness] 10 Years |
