Important Dates
Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2014
Date of notification: 17 May, 2014
Last date for receipt of application: 16 June ,2014
Commencement of exam: 24 August , 2014
Civil Services Mains Exam 2014
Commencement of exam: 14 December , 2014

The UPSC examination is taken using a two-step method. The interested applicants needs to appear for the civil services preliminary exam which is followed by the civil services mains exam.

The preliminary examination is an objective type exam organised as a screening test for the mains exam.

This paper comprises of two papers - general study paper and civil service aptitude test (CSAT).

Once the applicants clears the preliminary exam he or she needs to appear for the main exam paper.

It consists of nine written exams of 250 marks each.

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates require a graduation degree or equivalent from a recognized university to qualify for the application process.

The age limit for the applicants from the general category is 21-30 years, OBC category is 21-33 years and SC/ST category is 21-35 years.

The number of attempts available to pass the exam for general, OBC and SC/ST category are 4, 7 and 11 respectively.
