University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) was established in 1917, under the name Government Engineering College and was then affiliated to Bangalore University. It is a constituent college of Bangalore University which gives it a special status of a university.

The Department of Civil Engineering of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering was started in 1917 offering B.E. course in Civil Engineering and has been accredited by AICTE New Delhi.
