Re: University Of Adelaide MLC
The MLC (Maths Learning Centre) of University of Adelaide offers a bridging course called MathsTrack, which covers roughly the content in the old SACE Stage 2 subject 'Mathematical Studies'. It is similar to the content in the new SACE Stage 2 subject "Mathematical Methods", but without the statistics. It can be used as a prerequisite at the University of Adelaide in place of Mathematical Methods, but also simply to revise the content in high school mathematics. It course is self-paced which means one access the resources oneself when one is ready and there are no classes or timetables - so one can start at any time and take as long as one need. Who can do the Course The MathsTrack course is designed for people in the community who want to achieve a maths prerequisite for entry into tertiary study, and who are able to communicate with the University independently via email. To do bridging course, one does not need to be a University of Adelaide student, one does not need to be planning to come to the University of Adelaide in the future, and one does not need to be a South Australian resident. If one is a student still at High School wanting to study bridging course, it will contact ones school to seek further information. Where one is genuinely unable to do Mathematical Studies at ones school, it will be happy to complete course. However, it wants to be sure that an effort has been made to accommodate students studying the appropriate level of maths while at school. Course is set up The course has nine topics. The main resources for the course are presented here on the MLC website: Bridging Course Resources. The main resources for each topic are booklets that contain explanations, examples and exercises with answers. There are no classes and no deadlines - one controls the pace and accesses the resources oneself. There is an online learning environment hosted on BlackBoard CourseSites where one can access further resources and also communicate with the MLC lecturers. MLC lecturers are available on weekdays to help learn. Contact by phone, email, in person at the MLC Drop-In Centre on campus or via the CourseSite. |
