TOEFL or Test of English a Foreign Language is a standardized test that evaluates the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English.

It is developed and administered by the US-based "Educational Testing Service" (ETS). This implies that ETS sets the questions, conducts the test, and sends each examinee the score report.

It is basically for getting admission in colleges of English speaking countries like US, Canada and UK and other few countries.

[B]Eligibility

Anyone and everyone is eligible for taking the TOEFL test. There are no restrictions based on age or qualifications. The test scores are valid for two years, i.e., most universities accept scores up to two years old.

[B]TOEFL Test Syllabus [/B]

TOEFL is an exam of 4 hours comprises of following section:

1. Listening: Measures the ability to understand English as it is used in colleges and universities.
2. Reading: Measures the ability to understand academic reading matter.
3. Speaking: Measures the ability to speak English.
4. Writing: Measures the ability to write in a way that is appropriate for college and university course work.

Questions Timing
Computer Tutorial NA NA
Listening Section 30 - 50 questions 40 - 60 min.
Structure Section 20 - 25 questions 15 - 20 min.
Reading Section 44 - 60 questions 70 - 90 min.
Writing Section 1 Essay 30 min.
Total 94 - 135 question + 1 Essay 4 hrs (approx.)
