When was the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS) of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) established? What is the thrust area of research of the CARDS TNAU. Also give list of the research team members .

The Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS) was established in 1978 as the first multi disciplinary centre in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. This centre carries out research on socioeconomic issues concerning Agricultural and Rural development.

CARDS was constituted with two Departments namely Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology.

Objectives

bring together to assist public and private sectors as they work towards solving rural development problems,

provide a broad range of educational programs in social sciences which contribute to the development of human capital in the field of Agriculture and rural development,

coordinate and support research that improves understanding of Agricultural and rural development issues, problems and opportunities,

provide policy support to state and central government on problems confronting rural communities and,

foster inter-institutional collaboration at regional, national and international levels for research, training and development in select areas.
