Re: Thyroid Gland and its Hormones
The Thyroid’s Main Role in the Endocrine System is to Regulate your Metabolism, which is Your Body’s Ability to Break Down Food and Convert it to Energy. The Thyroid Hormones, Triiodothyronine (T3) and its Prohormone, Thyroxine (T4), are tyrosine-based hormones produced by the thyroid gland that are primarily responsible for regulation of metabolism. T3 and T4 are partially composed of iodine (see molecular model). A deficiency of iodine leads to decreased production of T3 and T4, enlarges the thyroid tissue and will cause the disease known as simple goitre. The Amount of thyroid hormones Secreted is controlled by another Hormone, called thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), which is released from the pituitary gland in your head. The Thyroid keeps your metabolism under control through the action of thyroid hormone Diseases and Disorders of the Thyroid Too much or too little thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, respectively) Abnormal thyroid growth Nodules or lumps within the thyroid Thyroid cancer Common Thyroid Problems : Goiters Hyperthyroidism Hypothyroidism Solitary thyroid nodules Thyroid cancer Thyroiditis |

Re: Thyroid Gland and its Hormones
The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped, endocrine gland in the neck. It produces hormones such as thyroxine (T4),and triiodothyronine (T3) . These hormones control the metabolism of many processes in the body. Thyroid hormone acts by increasing cellular energy production and this boosts all bodily functions including: brain function, heart rate and breathing.
