The Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli was established as a third constituent college of TANUVAS through the Tamil Nadu government G.O. Ms. No. 93, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (AH-6) Department dated 24/08/2011.

It cater the needs of the southern drought prone district farmers, who mainly depend on dairy, sheep and goat rearing for their daily livelihood and to augment the livestock production activities especially the small ruminant production in the southern districts.

Program-

B.V.Sc. & A.H degree programme in seven departments viz., Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Animal Nutrition, Livestock Production and Management, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex and Instructional Livestock Farm Complex

Students Strength

After getting the VCI approval in 2012, 40 students were admitted from the academic year 2012-13 to the academic year 2014-15 for B.V.Sc. & A.H. curriculum.

From the academic year 2015-16 onwards, 60 students are being admitted into Veterinary College and Research institute, Tirunelveli for B.V.Sc. & A.H Course.

Hostel facilities-

Separate hostel facilities have been created for boys and girls.

Student's mess facility has been created in the hostel from the inception onwards to provide healthy food at reasonable cost.

One warden and four deputy wardens (including two lady deputy wardens) have been appointed to monitor the hostel activities
