Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducts exam for direct recruitment of Gazetted Officers (Dy.S.P., S.D.O. etc.) for Bihar state.

There are 3 steps of exam for final selection for officer post.

First exam is preliminary test (PT). There is only one paper of GS in PT. This exam is for 150 marks. After compete PT you will be eligible for BPSC Mains exam.

There are four paper in BPSC mains exam.

(1) Hindi
(2) General Studies
(3) First Optional Paper
(4) Second Optional Paper

You have to pass first paper (Hindi) with minimum 30 marks. Extra marks in Hindi will not added in total marks.

General Studies subject is divided in two papers. There are three sections in both of GS paper.

Syllabus of BPSC Mains (GS)

Syllabus for GS paper 1 – Maximum Marks – 200

Section 1 – There are 4 questions in this section from “Modern History Of India and Indian Culture” subject. You have to give answer of any three questions from this section.

Section 2 – There are 4 questions in this section from ” Current Event of National and International Importance” subject. You have to give answer of any three questions from this section.

Section 3 – There are 4 questions in this section from “Statical Analysis, Graphs and Diagrams” subject. You have to give answer of any two questions from this section.

That means you have to give answer of 8 question from GS paper 1 in 3 hours.

Syllabus for GS paper 2 – Maximum Marks – 200

Section 1 – There are 4 questions in this section from “Indian Polity” subject. You have to give answer of any three questions from this section.

Section 2 – There are 4 questions in this section from “Indian Economy and Geography” subject. You have to give answer of any three questions from this section.

Section 3 – There are 4 questions in this section from “The Role and Impact of Science and Technology in the Development of India” subject. You have to give answer of any two questions from this section.

That means you have to give answer of 8 question from GS paper 2 in 3 hours.

Rest other 2 paper will be for optional subject.

After qualify BPSC mains exam you will be eligible for Interview. There are 150 marks in Interview.

Syllabus of GS Paper 1

Modern History of India and Indian culture (History of the country with special reference to Bihar in the middle of nineteenth century, the introduction and expansion of western and technical education, Bihars role in the Indian freedom struggle, the Santhal Uprising in Bihar, Birsa movement, Champaran Satyagrah, the Quit India Movement, chief features of Mauryan and Pal art, Patna Qulam painting, Roles of Gandhi, Tagore and Nehru)
Current events of national and international importance
Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams ( Questions to test the ability to draw conclusions from statistical, graphical or diagrammatical information and to point out deficiencies, limitations or inconsistencies)
Syllabus for GS Paper 2

Indian Polity ( Questions based on the political system in India including Bihar)
Indian economy and Geography of India (Questions on planning in India and the physical, economic and social geography of India and Bihar)
The role and impact of science and technology in the development of India (Questions to test awareness of the role and impact of science and technology in India and Bihar with special reference to applied science)
