The Science & Technology Department of the Government of West Bengal was established in 1988.

The West Bengal State Council of Science & Technology is an autonomous body which is registered under the Societies Registration Act & under the administrative control of this Department.

This was established on an all-India pattern, to facilitate the operationalsing of the Department's mandate, with inputs from eminent Experts in diverse specialised scientific and technology-related spheres.
