Panjab University is a public Autonomous university located in Chandigarh, India. It was established in 1882 making it one of the oldest universities in India

the department of the sport and science of the punujab university established in the year 1989.

This is the first department to start M.Sc. Sport Science and Ph.D. Sport Science in India. The first Ph.D. in Sport Science was awarded in 1993 and since then 42 students have been awarded Ph.D. degree in Sport Science. The research output from the department has continued to grow and teachers/ research scholars have published more than 200 research papers and 10 books. The department of Sports Science has also organized national/International conference/workshops/Seminars/Symposium from time to time.
