Re: San Storage Area Network

A storage area network (SAN) is a network that provides access to consolidated, block level data storage; it is primarily used to enhance storage devices, such as disk arrays, tape libraries, and optical jukeboxes, accessible to servers so that the devices appear to the operating system as locally attached devices.

It is a high-speed network of storage devices that also connects those storage devices with servers.

Computer network types by spatial scope

Nanoscale
Near-field (NFC)
Body (BAN)
Personal (PAN)
Controller (CAN)
Near-me (NAN)
Local (LAN)
Home (HAN)

Storage (SAN)
Campus (CAN)
Backbone
Metropolitan (MAN)
Wide (WAN)
Cloud (IAN)
Internet
Interplanetary Internet

Key factors that affect Storage Area Network QoS(Quality of Service) are:

Bandwidth – The rate of data throughput available on the system.
Latency – The time delay for a read/write operation to execute.
Queue depth – The number of outstanding operations waiting to execute to the underlying disks (Traditional or SSD).
