Re: Rupee Symbol IIT Guwahati
The connection is a very deep rooted one as the man whose design had been selected amongst nearly 3000 entries by the deputy governor of RBI was to fly out to Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati to join as an assistant professor in the department of design at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. The nationwide contest was run to decide on a global symbol for the Indian Rupee which was to be incorporated in Unicode i.e. computer keyboards would have a dedicated key for the symbol and it will appear to be seen as well as recognised around the world. A designer gets to craft a currency symbol just once in a nation's life. The symbol was designed, incorporating elements of Devanagari as well as Roman scripts, which had been chosen to represent India's growing economy and its currency. The man who designed had become more famous in India than most IAS officers or even world renowned doctors on July 15, 2010 |
