IIT Madras' Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI) is a registered not-for-profit society established in Oct 2006. Its mission is to incubate start-ups whose focus is to impact rural/underserved societal segments, leveraging ICT (Information and Communication Technologies)

Seed Capital

Interest free loan up to 5 lakhs
Repayment period up to 5 years

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises grant

Grant to up to 6.25 lakhs
Entrepreneur expected to contribute 15-25% of the total project cost
Fund awarded to both incubated entrepreneurs and companies for developing new products or services.


Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) Scheme

Convertible debt or equity, up to 25 lakhs
5-10% simple interest on loan
12-18 months moratorium period
18-24 months repayment period
Entrepreneur expected to contribute at least 20% of the total project cost
Funds to be used for developing ICT based solutions with possiblities of Intellectual Property generation


Technology Development Board fund
Convertible debt or equity, up to 25 lakhs
6-8% simple interest on convertible debt
12-24 months moratorium period
12-24 months repayment period
Incubated businesses can use this fund for


Product Enhancement / New Product Line
Developing solutions that will help improve processes or productivity


NSTEDB Seed Support Scheme

Convertible debt or equity, up to 50 lakhs for first generation entrepreneurs
6-8% simple interest on convertible debt
12-24 months moratorium period
12-36 months repayment period
The fund is for product or service development and testing and marketing associated with it
