Re: Role of Central Advisory Board of Physical Education and Recreation

Central Advisory Board of Physical Education, the Government of India's curriculum for the development of Physical education and recreational activities in the Country has made considerable headway. The Board had made a wide-ranging survey on the conditions of Physical education and recreation in the country and made valuable suggestions for improvement and development of the same.

This has since been in print under the title "A National Plan of Physical Education and Recreation." The Book includes in it the syllabus of Physical Education for boys and girls separately up to the Higher Secondary stage.

These too have been cautiously worked out by expert Sub-Committees appointed by the Board for the purpose.

The book also contains "Norms of Physical Fitness" for the a range of age groups of boys and girls between 7 plus to 17 years.

It is hoped that this statement which is an authoritative and exhaustive thesis on Physical education will be useful for students of Physical education as well as those generally interested in it.

Another important action taken by the Government to ensure a high standard of training in Physical education is by way of laying down Rules for the Recognition of Diplomas and Certificates of Physical Education in discussion with the Central Advisory Board of Physical Education and Recreation.

The Rules have been widely distributed to all State Government and Physical Education Institutions and it is anticipated that these will serve as a yardstick for purposes of maintaining a certain standard in Physical education 'Colleges.

The Yoga system of Physical Education has also received due recognition by the Government. "The National Plan of Physical Education and Recreation" gives a specific place to Yogic exercises in the 'Syllabuses of the School, graded according to the age of the children.

The Yogic Research Institution, Lonavla receives regular grants from the Government for the research being held on a Scientific basis.

Under the Second Five-Year Plan the pace of development of Physical Education will be considerably accelerated.

Some of the significant Schemes of the Ministry of Educatian for the promotion of Physical Education are follows:-

(i) Establishment of Nalional College of Physical Education. Rs. 70 lakhs
(ii) Grants to Physical Education Institutions and organisations for the promotion of Physical Education as well as research activities. Rs. 50 lakhs
