The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education
is a statutory and autonomous body established under the Maharashtra
Secondary Boards Act 1965 (amended in 1977).

The most prominent task of the board is to conduct the SSC and HSC
examinations. The exams are conducted in March and results declared in
June.

The exams are conducted throughout the state of Maharashtra, and students
studying in the Government-run High Schools are required to give this
examination for further Secondary Education, for which the admission is
given on the basis on merit.
