Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam is conducted by UPSC in following branches of Engineering. Civil Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering Educational qualification Must possess bachelors degree in Engineering from a recognized university or equivalent (B.E/B.Tech) Or Must have M.Sc degree or equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects are acceptable for certain services / posts Age criteria -Age should be in between 21-30 years as on 1 January (for general candidates) -The upper limit is relaxed for certain sections of the candidates. IES Exam centers Ahmedabad, Agartala, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jorhat, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Shillong, Cuttack, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dharwad, Dehradun, Dispur, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Aizwal, Aligarh, Allahabad, Bhopal, Bangalore, Bareilly, Chennai, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji (Goa), Patna, Port Blair, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shimla, Srinagar, Tirupati, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur and Vishakapatnam. IES Exam Paper General Ability -- Part A : General English. The question paper in General English will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. Part B : General Studies: The paper in General Studies will include knowledge of current events and of such matters as of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidates should be able to answer without special study.
