RDSO is the sole R&D organisation of Indian Railways and functions as the technical advisor to Rail Production Units and performs the following functions

Functions of RDSO

Development of new and improved designs

Development, adoption, absorption of new technology for use on Indian Railways

Development of standards for materials and products specially needed by Indian Railways

Technical investigation, statutory clearances, testing and providing consultancy services

Inspection of critical and safety items of rolling stock, locomotives, signaling & telecommunication equip

RDSOs multifarious activities have also attracted attention of railway and non-railwaabroad

RDSO Training aspects

Soil Testing as compatible with World Railways,

Soil Classification along with CBR value,

Slope Stability & Construction techniques for Heavy Axle loads,

Application of Geogrid, Fly Ash etc. in New Formations,

Ground Improvement Techniques for Sub-soil

Rehabilitation Techniques (for Present Scenario) and

Quality Control of Earthwork along with record keeping
