Set up in 1969, University of Jammu is a non-benefit open advanced education foundation situated in the medium-sized city of Jammu Tawi, Jammu and Kashmir. Formally licensed/perceived by the University Grants Commission, India, University of Jammu is a coeducational advanced education establishment.

University of Jammu offers courses and projects prompting officialy perceived advanced education degrees, for example, four year certifications, expert degrees, doctorate degrees in a few ranges of study.

University of Jammu has accomplished a remarkable refinement of being positioned 64th among the main 100 Universities and Colleges of the Country with a score of 55.70. Union Human Resource Development Minister Smt. Smriti Irani discharged the 'India Rankings 2016'.

The University had volunteered to partake in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) presented by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
