National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of Punjab Technical University organized a one week NSS Camp at CT Institute of Engineering, Management & Technology (CTIEMT) last year in March. About the NSS Camp The Camp organized to initiated spread awareness against two deadly diseases i.e. cancer & hepatitis. About 400 NSS student Volunteers from various professional colleges participated in this camp. All students volunteers were grouped into 12 different groups of nearly 30 students each and each group was named after the name of freedom fighters like “Lala Lajpat Rai”, “S. Kartar Singh Sarabha”, “Swami Vivekananda” Shaheed Udham Singh, Rani Laxmi Bai, etc. Nearly 11 villages vij Hamiri Khera, Meerapur, Khun Khun,Shahpur, Barsala, Udhopur, Partappura, Channanpur, Bhode Saprai, Kaddian, Jamsher, Phulriwal etc were opted for “Cancer & Hepatitis” awareness. Before sending to villages all students were provided professional training. In this survey all the houses in the respective villages were covered by the NSS teams in support of the relevant sarpanches & other renowned personnel of respective village. More than 3000 families were guided about the corrective measures to save the lives from these deadly diseases. In order to make people aware of the problems prevailing in the society; the students also displayed the enactment of different plays & Nukkad Nataks highlighting the social evils such as female foeticide, drug addiction, dowry system etc. The findings of the survey revealed that the village Chananpur was not having a single case of cancer whereas the village Phulriwal is having maximum cases of drug addiction. |
