Re: Pune University Pilot Training
The University of Pune (UoP) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany's pilot training and flight school, Fachshule fur Luftfahrzeugfuhrer (FFL), to launch a 2-year M Tech (Aviation) course The basic qualification essential to join the new semester pattern course is a degree in engineering or technology branch. During the course, aspirants will study at UoP's department of technology for the first 6 months while the remaining three semesters would engage onsite training at the FFL facilities in Germany; eventually leading to a European flying licence by German aviation regulator LBA. While the UoP will honour the M Tech (Aviation) degree, students returning to India after their onsite training will be required to embark on probe tests by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to secure an Indian licence which would also facilitate them to operate in the Asia Pacific region too, apart from Europe. The new M.Tech course is not just concerning pilot training, it will also stress on the engineering aspects. This will ensure job opportunities in flying as well as ground engineering and allied services as the pass outs will be extremely qualified engineers. Students will undergo wide-ranging 800 hours of flying exercises during their onsite activity; no other course offers such extensive flying training. The association with the FFL will attach a new dimension to the university's image and diversify its vision. The cost of undertaking the new M.Tech course is on the higher side with the fees estimated to be around Rs 55 lakh for the two-years. The onsite training would also engage a lot of ground studies, soft skills, communication and team building activities. |
