IPS is a part of Civil Services, and its exams are conducted by UPSC.

Here are the IPS exam eligibility criteria:

Eligibility:
The applicants age must be at least 21 years at the time of filling the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam form and not more than 30 years of age (various relaxations are available for different categories).

The applicant should have possess a graduate degree in any discipline of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed.

The applicants who are in the final year or final semester & awaiting the results can also appear for the IPS Preliminary examination provided proof of degree while filling the Mains form.

Exam pattern
The candidates will have to appear and qualify in the following 2 examinations:

1. Preliminary Examination/ Civil Services Aptitude Test

2. Mains Examination and Interview

Prelim exam shall be based on the following main topics:

Current Affairs of National and International Events; Indian and World History; Indian and World Geography; Indian Constitution and Governance; Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development; General Science respectively

Paper II shall consist of questions on the following main topics:
Interpersonal Skills; General Mental Ability; Analytical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning; English Language Comprehension Skills; Data Sufficiency and Data Interpretation; Decision Making and Problem Solving; and Comprehension based questions
