In order to become IPS Officer contenders has to crack civil services examination being taken by Union Public Service Commission every year.

The selection procedure to become an IPS Officer is by
- Civil Services Aptitude Test
-Civil Services Main Examination
-Interview.

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates should possess Degree in any discipline from any University recognised by Government.
Age of the contenders should not be less than 21 years and should not be than 30 years to be eligible for IPS Exam.

Exam Pattern:
Paper I Objective Type - 2 hours duration
Paper II Objective Type - 2 hours duration
Paper III English Language Descriptive Type - 3 hours duration
Paper IV Essay - Descriptive Type - 3 hours duration
Paper V General Descriptive Type - 3 hours duration

Interview - 200 Marks
