Poverty Alleviation Programmes of India are defining the rural and urban areas development plans introduced by Government of India. The five year plans immediately after independence tried to focus on poverty alleviation through sectoral programmes. These programs are designed to target rural poverty as the prevalence of the poverty is high in rural areas. Poverty Alleviation Programmes are targeting of the poverty is challenging in rural areas due to various geographic and infrastructure limitations. The programmes can group into: Wage employment programmes Self-employment programmes Food security programmes Social security programmes Urban poverty alleviation programmes The Government has launched several poverty alleviation programmes, these are: Legal elimination of bonded labourers. Preventing the centralisation of wealth by modifying the law. Antyodaya plan.
