Pondicherry University (PU), Kalapet was established in 1985 by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament. The University is fully supported by the University Grants Commission and is reaccredited with A Grade by NAAC.

Pondicherry University Guest House is a part of University Convention cum Cultural Centre which is situated on the East Cost Road opposite to Pondicherry Engineering College, in a separate campus 14 kms ahead of Pondicherry town.
