The Renal Transplant Centre of PGIMER, Chandigarh is one of the pioneers in transplantation in India.

The first renal transplant was performed here in June1973.

Cadaveric transplantation is also being performed by this Department.

It has also taken a lead in the country regariding use of organs from donors after cardiac death.

The department introduced advanced laparoscopic methods for retrieval of donor kidneys in 2004.
