The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) was established in 1962 which was later declared as an “Institute of National Importance” by an act of parliament on 1st April 1967


PGIMER School of Public Health is making concerted effort to achieve continuing and long-term student involvement in community health work.

The faculty tries to expand the values, attitude and ethical orientation of the students to have commitment to service of those in greatest need.

Several leading national and international agencies such as DBT, ICMR, WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, DFID, MOH&FW, and MOE&F have funded research project on following research areas:

Reproductive Health: Maternal Survival Interventions, Micronutrients, RTIs/ STIs

Child and Adolescent Health: Neonatal Survival Interventions, Micronutrients, Peer-Based Sexual Health Education, AH Clinics.

Communicable Diseases: TB Control, HIV Estimates and Targeted Interventions, Behavioral and Biological Surveys, Group A Strep Epidemiology, Disease Burden due to Hib, rota virus.

Non-Communicable Diseases: CVD, COPD, RF/RHD Control Project.

Environmental Health: Air and Water Quality, Environment and Cancer.
