Re: Pattern of CAT Entrance Exam

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India test conducted by the
Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance exam for admission
to the Post-graduate and Fellow Programs in management courses of several
management institutes all over India including the IIMs.

Eligibility Criteria:

-The candidate must be a graduate with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA
(45% in case of SC/ST/DA/PWD) or possess an equivalent qualification
recognized by the ministry of HRD, Government of India.

-Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree / equivalent
qualification examination and those who have completed degree
requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.

Paper Pattern:

Sections: 3

Quantitative Ability

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning

Verbal and Reading Comprehension

Number of Questions: 100

Quantitative Ability – 34

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning - 32

Verbal and Reading Comprehension – 34

Duration: 180 minutes

Sectional Duration: 1 hour for each section

Question Types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Non-MCQs

Calculator Usage: On Screen basic calculator will be provided

Marking Scheme

For Non-MCQs,

-+3 marks for ‘correct answer’

-No marks(or negative marks) for ‘wrong or no attempt’.


The scoring scheme for multiple-choice questions (MCQ's) is:
-+3 for correct answer
--1 for incorrect answer
-No marks are given or deducted for un-attempted questions.
