As per your Question the IAS Examination is come in the Category of the Civil Service Examination of Government of India. Conducted by UPSC Every year.

The Exam is conducted in three stages :

UPSC Prelims is a qualifying exam to select candidates for the mains.
It consists of a general studies and an aptitude test.

UPSC Mains . It aims to test the in-depth knowledge of subjects as well as conceptual insights and understanding of a candidate.

Personality test or Personal Interview

The entire process from the notification of the preliminary exam to the declaration of the final results roughly takes one year.
