Oakwood University is a private, historically black university which is located in the city of Huntsville, Alabama, United States. It was established in 1896. The Campus Security Act – Legal Requirements Section 485(a) and (f) of the Higher Education Act (HEA), informally referred to as the “Jeanne Clery Act,” requires colleges and universities to: Publish an annual report every year by October 1st that contains three (3) years of campus crime statistics and certain campus security policy statements; Disclose crime statistics for the campus, public areas immediately adjacent to or running through the campus, and certain non-campus facilities and remote classrooms. The statistics must be gathered from campus police or security, local law enforcement, and other University officials who have “significant responsibility for student and campus activities;” Provide “timely warnings” notices of those crimes that have occurred and pose an ongoing “threat to students and employees;” and Disclose in a public crime and fire log “any crime (and residence hall fire) that occurred on campus….
