IES 2018 exam 8is conducted for recruitment of engineers in government services/sectors of railways, roadways, defence, energy and telecommunication.the Exam is Conducted by UPSC

Number of Vacancy

The number of seats in ESE vary every year. For instance, in 2014, total number of vacancies (all branches) were 572, in 2015 it got reduced to 475, and in 2016 it increased to 602. Number of seats are subject to vacancies in various central government departments.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:-
The aspirant must be any one of the following:
A citizen of India
A citizen of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan
a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopi

Age:-
Aspirants aged between 21 and 30 years.

Educational Qualification:-
- B.E./B.Tech or passed sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) or

- Obtained a degree/diploma in engineering from such foreign university/college/institution recognized by the Government of India from time to time.

-Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or

-Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or

-Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959.

Examination Pattern

Category-I Civil Engineering
Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) - 2 hrs - 200 marks
Paper-II (Civil Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Total - 500 marks

Category-II Mechanical Engineering
Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) - 2 hrs - 200 marks
Paper-II (Mechanical Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Total - 500 marks

Category-III Electrical Engineering
Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) - 2 hrs - 200 marks
Paper-II (Electrical Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Total - 500 marks

Category-IV Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) - 2 hrs - 200 marks
Paper-II (Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Total - 500 marks

Stage-II(Mains/Stage-II) Examination:-

Category-I Civil Engineering
Paper-I ( Civil Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Paper-II (Civil Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Total - 600 marks

Category-II Mechanical Engineering
Paper-I ( Mechanical Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Paper-II (Mechanical Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks

Category-III Electrical Engineering
Paper-I ( Electrical Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Paper-II (Electrical Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks

Total - 600 marks

Category-IV Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
Paper-I ( Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Paper-II (Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) - 3 hrs - 300 marks
Total - 600 marks

Stage-III(Personality Test) - 200 Marks.
