Eligibility
All students studying in Class X in any recognized school is eligible to appear in Stage-I NTS exam. Additionally, State/UT can impose any eligibility criteria to appear in Stage-I.

For stage-II, there is a quota for each State and Union Territory computed based on Student enrollment at secondary level. Students with Indian Nationality studying abroad need to secure 60% marks in previous examination to apply for NTS exam. Such students, if selected, need to appear for Stage-II NTSE directly.

Exam pattern
Stage I & II: Examination at the State / UT level will comprise of three papers i.e.
Paper - Test - No of Questions - No of Marks - Duration -

Paper I - Mental Ability Test (MAT) - 50 Qs - 50 Marks - 45 Minutes
Paper II - Language Test (LT) English / Hindi - 50 Qs - 50 Marks - 45 Minutes
Paper III - Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) - 100 Qs - 100 Marks - 90 Minutes

At stage II (National Level) - There will be negative marking in each paper. For each wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted. No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

Scholarship Details
About One thousand (1000) scholarships are awarded for different stages of education as follows:

a) Scholarship of Rs.1250/- per month for Class-XI to XII

b) Scholarships of Rs.2000/- per month for Undergraduates and Post graduates

c) Amount of Scholarship for PhD be fixed in accordance with the UGC norms
