The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a New York City-based, non-profit international environmental advocacy group. Founded in 1970, it today has 2.4 million members, online activities nationwide, and a staff of about 500 lawyers, scientists and other policy experts.

It was co-founded in 1970 by John Adams, Richard Ayres, John Bryson, Edward Strohbehn, and Gus Speth.

NRDC works to safeguard the earth its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. It combine the power of more than two million members and online activists with the expertise of some 500 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates across the globe to ensure the rights of all people to the air, the water, and the wild.
