The Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering of NIT Rourkela was established in 2007 for providing a multidisciplinary research and teaching program in Biotechnology and Medical Engineering.

The innovative educational programs created by the department integrate all level of biological and Medical Sciences with a quantitative, systems-oriented engineering analysis and synthesis approach.

B.Tech. (Biotechnology)
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs):
I) To understand and apply the concepts of Biology, Chemical Engineering and related aspects of science and technology to build career and pursue higher studies in Biotechnology
II) To identify, analyze and solve problems with novelty and updated knowledge in the development of product/process/technique to meet the societal demands and to impart value added continuing education for sustained growth.
III) To demonstrate professional and ethical attitude with awareness of current issues and think about the social entailment of their work, especially its impact on safety, health and environment
IV) To apply acquired practical skills and broad biotechnological training to excel in service to industry, R & D and entrepreneurship.

B.Tech. (Biomedical Engineering)
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs):
I) To understand and apply the concepts of Engineering and Sciences including Biology in Medicine that will build career and pursue higher studies in Biomedical Engineering.
II) To identify, analyze and solve the problems with novelty and updated knowledge in the development of product/process/technique related to healthcare to meet the societal demands.
III) To make graduates proficient in written and oral communications in their professions and to impart value added continuing education for sustained growth.
IV) To apply the acquired practical skills and training for effective teaching, research, development and entrepreneurship in biomedical field.

M.Tech. (Biotechnology)
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs):
I) To produce competent human resources capable of contributing towards the development of industry, teaching and research in Biotechnology.
II) To impart a set of multidisciplinary professional skills that will enable the students to solve complex bio-engineering problems and carryout collaborative research & development programs.
III) To bring social, ethical and professional awareness among the students about various issues of contemporary engineering practices in biotechnology and related fields.

M.Tech. (Biomedical Engineering)
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs):
I) To enable post-graduates in acquiring academic expertise and practical experiences at advanced level in Biomedical Engineering.
II) To make the post-graduates more responsible by improving their competency in Biomedical Engineering practice and research
III) To enable the post-graduates in understanding the social, ethical and professional issues of contemporary engineering practices in healthcare sector.
