Re: Navy Jag Salary
The Navy JAG Corps takes care of its lawyers and their families to ensure they are ready to meet its professional challenges. A key component of the military's legal system is the judge advocate general (JAG), or military lawyer. Military lawyers are commissioned officers and normally earn pay, allowances and benefits commensurate with their rank and years of service. As of 2013, JAG corps officers with two years or less of service earned $3,314 monthly, while those with four years of service earned $5,034 monthly. However, The total salary package of all military members, not just military lawyers, can include certain tax-free allowances such as a housing allowance when living off-base in civilian housing. In San Diego, for example, military officers with four years of service can earn an additional $26,244 to $29,196 annually to cover housing costs when living off base. In addition to basic pay and a possible housing allowance, all military officers earn an additional $2,916 annually in tax-free food allowances. Military members also earn a guaranteed retirement after 20 years service and can direct additional pretax salary into a thrift savings retirement plan. JAG corps officer salaries are also enhanced by intangible benefits, including no expenses for maintaining a practice. |
