The AIDS Control Programme in Assam was started as a State AIDS Cell which was established in the year 1992 in the office of the Director of Health Services, Assam under the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) for implementing the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) Phase I.

International Youth Day

Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) observed International Youth Day- 2016 in association with Red Ribbon Club(RRC) of SB Deorah College, Guwahati on August 12, 2016 at the college auditorium.

Theme

This years theme is The Road to 2030-Eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable consumption and production.

Event Information

Welcoming the participants comprising mainly the students of the college, the Principal Dr Dharmendra Nath while emphasizing on the significance of the day, appealed to the student community to play a constructive role in creating a healthy society - free from all kinds of illicit activities.

Speaking on the occasion Project Director, ASACS Manvendra Pratap Singh, IA Ssaid, Youths mainly in the age group of 15 to 29 years are mainly vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.

Thus, youths have a huge responsibility to fight this deadly menace, adding, Very soon you all will be in the service sector and then it is your responsibility to plan the future but not at the cost of destroying the environment.

He also praised the RRC for doing a yeomens service in spreading HIV/AIDS awareness.
NSS Youth Officer, Nakul Deuri also spoke on the occasion. RRC Officer of SB Deorah College, Dr Niranjan Kalita offered the vote of thanks.
