At IIT Roorkee the Department of Chemistry was established in 1960. It is engaged in providing highest level and quality of academic education.

The main focus of the teaching and research in the department is centered on interdisciplinary themes which have gained worldwide attention and appreciation.

The department offers four programs leading to the award of MSc (2 yr post BSc with admission through JAM, and 5 year integrated MSc with admission through JEE), MTech and PhD degrees.
