In Germany, every university is autonomous which means that every university / study programme has its own set of criteria for admitting students. So one need to check the university website, and specifically the programe you are interested in to find out the exact admission requirements.

Some generalization is, however, possible and one can say that as a bachelor degree holder from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal or Sri Lanka, one’s degree is treated at par with a German bachelor degree and most universities will consider you eligible for masters provided you fulfill other criteria.

Some universities ask for TOEFL/IELTS/GRE/GMAT scores, depending upon the subject one chooses to study. For example, GMAT may be asked for if you want to study economics or law. Universities ask for very good German language skills in case one wants to take up a programme in German medium. In such case, your knowledge of German needs to be certified through exams like the Test DaF or DSH.

General Application Requirements

Admission to most study programmes in Germany requires you to take all or part of the following steps:

Provide a high-school graduate certificate, called Abitur in Germany.

Find out if your certificate is recognized by the German university.

You might have to take a written examination.

Confirming your German language proficiency, or English proficiency if choosing an English-taught programme

Prove that you can pay for your stay in Germany.

Present proof of scholarship, if applicable.

Get health insurance – usually about 50 EUR per month. Some universities may offer service packages including accommodation, meal vouchers and a health insurance policy.
