Purvi Champaran District is working from second November 1972. It is arranged at 26o 16' to 27o 1' North scope and 84o 30' to 85o 16' East longitudes. The District includes a territory of 3968.0 sq km with 1344 towns having populace of 50,82,868 according to 2011 enumeration.

According to the Administration is concerned, the Administrative set up of the District is decentralized into 6 sub-division, 27 pieces, 27 Circles, 2 Nagar Parishad, 7 Nagar Panchayats, 405 Panchayats and 41 police headquarters. The Administration of the District is controlled by Tirhut Divisional Commissioner.

According to the Police Administration of Bihar is Concerned, Purvi Champaran District works under DIG of Police, Betiah Range, Betiah. The District Headquarters is situated at Motihari.
