Re: Masters in Accounting Vs MBA

About Master’s of Accounting

The Master’s of Accounting is related to many other specialized master’s degrees, such as the Master of Accountancy, Master of Professional Accountancy, or Master of Science in Accounting.

Work Experience:

Most MAcc programs see post-baccalaureate work experience as an added bonus if an applicant has it – but definitely not a detriment if s/he does not have it at time of application.

Prerequisite knowledge:

MAcc programs have varying levels of prerequisite accounting knowledge (in the form of accounting coursework) as prerequisite to successful applications.

Courses that you may be required to take include the MAcc:

Advanced accounting
Principles of auditing
Advanced federal taxation
Taxation of real estate transactions

International financial reporting standards
International taxation

About MBA:

MBA in Accounting

The Master of Business Administration degree in Accounting is the typical and traditional route to graduate-level business education for accountants.

Work experience

Most MBA programs put emphasis on prior post-baccalaureate work experience as part of the admission decision.

Prerequisite knowledge

Most MBA programs do not have formal prerequisite knowledge required for successful applicants.

The MBA curriculum might include courses in:

Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Operations management
Marketing management
Regression analysis for managers
Financial management
