Department of Indian Music ,University of Madras was established in the year 1932.

Mission

To Create the requisite substratum for study of Fine and Performing Arts to one and all.

To strive for excellence in artistic, academic and research pursuits.

To develop creative, analytical and performing skills in the three aspects of Vadya (instrumental and percussion) , 'Sangita' - Gita (voice) and Nritya (dance).
