The University of Madras is a public state university in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Established in 1857, it is one of the oldest and premier universities in India.

About Madras University Library:

Madras University Library was established in 1907 in the Connemara Public Library.

The existing library building, built in Indo-British style was opened on 3rd September 1936.
