Indian Administrative Services Exam is a Civil Services exam conducted by central body Union Public Service Commission every year in the month of May to select candidates in the Central Government and its various departments. IAS Exam Eligibility Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university Candidates having professional and technical qualifications recognised by the government are also eligible. Candidates appearing in final year examination of graduation can also apply. Candidates who have passed the final year of MBBS or any Medical degree Examination but are yet to complete the internship can also appear for the Main Examination. Age Limits: Candidate age must be between 21 years to 30 years The upper age limit may be relaxed in respect of the SC/ST and other backward classes. Nationality: For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India For other services, a candidate must be either: A citizen of India, or A subject of Nepal, or A subject of Bhutan, or A Tibetan refugee who came over to India with the intention of permanently settling in India. or A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. These candidates will not be eligible for appointment to the Indian Foreign Service. Number of attempts: Category Number of Attempts General category 4 Physically handicapped belonging to general category 7 Other backward classes 7 SC/ST candidates Unlimited IAS Exam Syllabus IAS Preliminary Examination 2014 would consist of two papers- Paper I and Paper II. The syllabus and pattern of the Preliminary Examination would be as under : Paper 1 (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs. Current events of national and international importance History of India and Indian national movement Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc. Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc. General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot require subject specialization General science. Paper 2 (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs. Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills Logical reasoning and analytical ability Decision making and problem solving General mental ability Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level) English language comprehension skills (Class X level) |
