Re: Krannert School of Management History

Since its inception in 1958, the Krannert School of Management has been widely recognized as one of the top business schools in the country. The historical timeline features photos and summaries of important school milestones from the schools creation till today.

Till 1970, more than 2,000 baccalaureate degrees have been awarded by the School of Industrial Management. An economics major for undergraduates was established in the school. Beta Gamma Sigma, a national business honorary, is installed on May 20.

In the 1980 to 1989 the school had acquired:

National accounting honorary Beta Alpha Psi is installed. An MSIA/MS class of 144 students enters Krannert.

The 1st in a continuing series of exhibitions from corporate art collections opens in the Krannert Drawing Room.

Nobel Laureate Herbert A. Simon spoke in the doctorial seminar series.

The Krannert Charitable Trust funds a whooping $3 million for construction of a new executive education building. Under the direction of Professor Andrew B. Whinston, the Management Information Research Center was established with the assistance of a generous grant from IBM Corp.

The 1990 was the year of Dennis Weidenaar:

Dennis Weidenaar (right) became the fifth dean of the Krannert School on Jan. 1. He was the faculty member since 1966 and most recently associate dean, he replaced Ronald Frank, who resigned in October 1989.

The Krannert School's professional master's degree programs were ranked 19th among U.S. business and professional schools by U.S. News & World Report. Krannert ranks 5th among schools offering production management specializations.

In the year 2000 Jerry Rawls, president and chief executive officer of Finisar Corp. and a 1968 Krannert master's alum, pledges almost $10 million to the Krannert at the Frontier Campaign. The gift wass the largest in Krannert history and one of the largest at Purdue. In recognition of his generosity, the Purdue Board of Trustees votes to name him the new Krannert facility Jerry S. Rawls Hall.

In the year 2010 Krannert alumni Drew Brees (BSIM ’01) was named Super Bowl XLIV Most Valuable Player after leading the New Orleans Saints past the Indianapolis Colts. Brees also was named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated.

Krannert student James Franco was named the G.A. Ross Award recipient as the outstanding male senior at Purdue. A recipient of a Steven C. Beering Scholarship, Franco has a near perfect 4.0 GPA.

In the year 2015 2 of Krannert accounting graduates, Michael Kovacich and Nathan Lyons, received the Elijah Watt Sells Award. They finished among the top sixty of more than 91,000 people who took the Uniform CPA Examination in 2014.

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales addressed a crowd of more than seven hundred at the Purdue Series on Corporate Citizenship and Ethics.
