King George Medical University is a type of public university.

It was established in the year 1911.

It is located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

It is affiliated by UGC, MCI and DCI.

In 1870 the Maharaja of Vijanagaram first drifted the idea of starting a
Medical College in Lucknow.

But the idea was dampened down due to paucity of funds.

In 1905 the visit of King-Emperor, George V, then Prince of Wales, inspired
the idea of establishing a college to commemorate the occasion.

The College buildings comprised of a fine Administrative Block, an
Anatomical block, a combined Pathological and Physiological block and a
Medico-Legal Department.



The architect of the buildings was Sir Swinton Jacob and the structures were
designed in the Indo-Saracenic style to be in keeping with ancient and royal
buildings of this capital of Oudh and with the Imambara or Tomb of Nawab
Asaf-ud-Daulah, which stands immediately besides the College and which
dates from 1784.

The university campus is spread over an area of roughly 100,000 sq metres.
It is located about 5 km from Charbagh Railway Station and is well
connected to all parts of the city by public transport systems such as bus,
tempo and taxi
