Jumpstart CCSU

Jumpstart organization recruits and trains college students. Is the Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) having any partnership or any contact with the Jumpstart organization to recruiting its students? If yes then please tell me about the recruitment made by the organization from CCSU?

Re: Jumpstart CCSU

CCSU Jumpstart is a National Organization dedicated to serving preschool children in low-income neighborhoods.

Jumpstart recruits and trains college and university students and community members who utilize a proven curriculum to help children develop the language and literacy skills needed to be ready for kindergarten.

This focus sets them on a path to close the achievement gap.

In the 2016-2017 academic year, at Central Connecticut State University, 94% of children in the evaluation sample made gains on the Jumpstart School Success Checklist. (JSSC)

The JSSC is used to measure what pre-school children are learning before and after participating in Jumpstart.

Jumpstart Corps members are trained through Community Engagements Site Manager and work in local preschools in New Britain.

Students work in teams with other CCSU students and read books, sing songs, and play games with the preschool children.

Corps members earn $1,230 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award with completion of the program.

Students who have federal work study can earn it through the program, but students are not required to have work study to be Corps members.

Corps members must serve approximately 12 hours per week in local early childhood centers. Corps members currently work in both the fall and spring semesters.

They must complete 300 hours of work during the academic year to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.

Students work ONE of two offered sessions during the semester:

Mondays & Wednesdays: 9 am-12 pm
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 9 am-12pm
