B.D.S. or Bachelor of Dental Surgery is an undergraduate Dentistry course.

The Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) degree programme is a five-year course that is divided into four parts each of one years’ duration followed by a year of internship.

Job opportunities
Excellent employment opportunities are available for dentists in dental departments in hospitals, nursing homes, dental clinics and health departments.

You can also get a teaching job in any of the dental colleges spread across the country.

In BDS candidates learn about various forms of treatment including Surgical Procedures, Dental materials, Dental anatomy & Oral histology, Oral Pathology, Community Dentistry, Pedodontics, Oral Medicine & Radiology etc. which are some of the topics that are generally taught.

Jobs in Government Sector

There are many career opportunities for the BDS graduates in the government sectors.

They can get employment through various government examinations such as UPSC, State PSCs, SSC, Public sector banks, etc.

They are also recruited by other departments like Railways, Defense and Ordnance factories for the hospitals run by them.

At the entry level the BDS graduates can practice as dentist in government hospitals, private nursing homes, corporate or industrial hospitals.
